when first meeting shigetsu, one might think him another cold, heartless noble. his eyes are almost always absent, and his face unreadable. it is a facade of indifference he's perfected at a very young age. he's very distant, and prefers to observe when in an unfamiliar setting.when spoken to, he may seem short-tempered and snappy, but he's a man that's grown sick and tired of formalities. he prefers honesty, brutal it may often be. beneath the aloof mannerisms, shigetsu is a well-meaning man, only ever seeking to escape the bureaucracy of his everyday life. and sometimes, he can be kind.beneath all the bravado, away from prying eyes, he allows himself to be childish.
early life
the nobunaga is a proud and greedy merchant family - his lineage traces back to a great lupin huntress, and her blood persists even to this day (though, now domesticated if shigetsu's appearance was anything to go by).shigetsu's sole purpose, since the moment of his birth, was to inherit the role as head of the family. he was raised by his handlers from the very beginning - he never even know the warmth of his mother's bosom. despite it all, he remained obedient and pliant, as the family shaped him into the perfect heir.due to this detached upbringing, he remained sheltered from his family's business - which consisted of supplying the garlean occupation in doma with magitek and performance-altering tinctures. his family is also responsible for weaponizing the resistances in ala mhigo, doma and the sekiseigumi in hingashi. it's for this very reason that the locals often scorned him (much to his confusion).the frustration from his responsibilities sometimes boil over, resulting in the occasional bouts of rebellion. he's a known flight risk, and would be untraceable for weeks to months. he's more than capable of taking care of himself, he's found, but the sight of his handlers begging for him to return always drags him back to that dreadful estate. perhaps one day, he might be free of this blood-stained legacy being forced upon his hand.
